Cells and Organelles, Reading, Writing and Online Learning

The students are in the midst of their cell model presentations, which have been made to relative scale in terms of the organelles that the students have learned thus far.  Presentations have been well executed, and in some cases, very delicious for the rest of the class upon completion!

The students took their first quiz last Friday, and will be studying unicellular organisms to extend student microscope use.  Next steps include the study of diffusion, osmosis and the basic function of cells in organs.

Use of paper 📝  or electronic student agendas is part of our daily routine, and parent support to encourage students to ensure they go to and from school each day is much appreciated as students learn to customize their own organization systems to stay on top of their schoolwork.

A class read aloud on Fridays, After Ever After, has been out springboard into Writer's workshop in ELA, and while student writing is expected to be ongoing, one publishable two-page work is expected by the end of the month. We have been honing in on Ideas as the focus for Writing Traits thus far, and will be honing the organization, voice, and editing process in the months ahead, as the students also work on spelling, grammar exercises, and novel studies over the next two weeks as well.

The class continues to work together on the novel The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, and spelling words and vocabulary related to the region and time period of the novel.

Students will receive their Mathletics and Spellodrome log-ins on Monday in order to begin online support of their learning in those subjects.  If you have any questions about how it can be further used at home, please contact Mrs. Bishop or Mrs. Butterfield, respectively for the related subjects they teach.

Here's to your child's learning and success!
