Fall 2018
I know it is a busy time of year for parents, so this blog entry will be brief this week.
The students have been creating their vision for what a Peaceful, Productive, Healthy and Happy classroom will look like in Grade 7 and 8. I am very excited to be teaching your child this year! We are establishing important routines for the morning, and the end of the day. One of those routines is the students' use of their school-provided Student Agendas. Students are required to bring agendas to and from school every day. I will initial them at the end of the day to indicate that students have copied all due dates on assignments from the weekly assignment board in the classroom, which is used by all of the academic subject teachers. Use of this agenda is part of your child's ELA evaluation toward their mark each term. Parents are not required to initial agendas on a regular basis, unless a student begins to have difficulty with completion of homework, and you and I determine with your child that the extra check in can help support work habits at home.
The students reported an excellent first trip to Shops for Foods and Nutrition class. The students' next day will be in several weeks. Your child can pick up extra copies of the calendar in the classroom, if required.
Subject Summaries:
- Spelling, grammar, and writing assignments will all begin this week in ELA. Also up ahead: Multiple Intelligences and how we can use self-understanding to increase our ability to learn.
- Mapwork has already begun in Social Studies.
- The Scientific Design Process was reviewed this week, and practiced in groups with a building design challenge which is due on Wed. The initial vocabulary for Ecosystems was introduced last week.
- Math has been assigned daily.
-The students' first French assignment was assigned this week.
I always welcome your visits at the end of the day, phone calls, or emails to discuss your child's progress, and look forward to the learning ahead!
